How to brew coffee with a French press

A French press is a simple method of brewing good full-bodied coffee! This type of coffee press has traditionally been used in France, where it is called cafetière. The name coffee press can be a bit misleading, but the coffee brewed with a French press has nothing to do with espresso.

French press coffee is both rich and heavy, but at the same time very elegant. Remember to always decant the coffee immediately after brewing so it doesn’t become bitter or chalky. Brewing coffee with your French press is very simple. You only need a French press, coffee and water to make great coffee.

Follow these steps and start making delicious coffee:

  1. Warm up your empty French press with hot water.
  2. Insert approximately 6 grams of coffee per decilitre of water (e.g. 30 grams of coffee and 0.5 litres of water). A coffee grinder should be set to a step coarser than drip coffee.
  3. Start by pouring gently half of the water into the coffee press and stir. The water should be approx. 92 - 96 degrees.
  4. Pour the rest of the hot water into the French press and place the lid in place.
  5. Let the coffee brew for 4 minutes.
  6. Press down the filter evenly and slowly. Pour in a cup and enjoy!
  7. Don’t forget to clean your French press after every use.
